July 28 | LA: Ain’t I A Womxn?

Saturday at 8 p.m.

The event is free.

LA State Historical Park (1245 N. Spring St.), Los Angeles.

In what is shaping up to be the performance event of the summer, Freewaves, a new media arts organization, has put together a one-night event that will feature 35 Los Angeles artists and collectives staging a variety of actions that toy with identity and gender under the light of the full moon. This will include work by artists such as Nao Bustamante and Marcus Kuiland-Nazario, Jennifer Moon, Raquel Gutiérrez, Zachary Drucker, Kiki Xtravaganza and Xina Xurner (the performance duo of Marvin Astorga and Young Joon Kwak)."

-Carolina Miranda,

"The evening will culminate in a supergroup mash-up featuring noise/dance outfit Xina Xurner (Young Joon Kwak and Marvin Astorga), Patty Schemel (Hole’s drummer and author of Hit So Hard), and Paris Hurley’s art punk act OBJECT AS SUBJECT. In the words of Kwak, it will be “a collective ritual scream/battlecry/mourning/processing/call to arms/catharsis (audience participation encouraged!) that will slowly build and swell to fill the space of the park with our collective love, solidarity, rage, and power that will resonate beyond individual and spatial boundaries.” If that weren’t enough, Bray says there will also be an audience gender reveal involving smoke bombs and a forklift."
